Poem Featured in video and book:

Your eye’s they curve around me

by Helen Knott

This project aims to engage and raise awareness, but also to remember the lives of these women. The 724 kilometer highway runs through some of Canada’s most remote regions, all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The isolated highway runs through kilometers of forest, small towns based around the logging industry, and a few reservations. Multiple bodies have been discovered dumped on the side of the road along this stretch of highway, and many women who have hitchhiked along it have never been seen again.

01 | CHALLENGE

Studies seeking to understand the pressing issue have stalled due to lack of funding.

01 | CREATIVE STRATEGY

With all the noise in the media, issues like this one get lost in the background. This project sets out to engage audiences with abstract, thought provoking pieces that are meant to draw viewers attention to what seems to be random type forms and paintings, which later become the names of the missing and murdered.

CREATIVE SOLUTION

Editorial | These pieces are abstracts to those who do not know these women by name. By the end of reviewing this book, viewers are introduced to the names of the women featured.

With this additional layer of information, I hope that the viewers will take the time to look further into the issue. Through art and design, I hope to draw in various audiences to issues that are not being properly heard or supported.

Motion |  Using Helen Knott’s poem  “You’re eyes, they curve around me”. I explore various typographic layouts, accompanied by a collection of experimental paint and ink recordings. Like the editorial piece I hope to display different types of content in a more visual away to intrigue different kinds of audiences to interact with the content being presented.
